3 Ways to Create Ritual with Your Menstrual Blood
Usha Anandi. 1 | April | 2023
One of the most Google searched inquiries in regards to self care on your period is, “is it okay to rest during my period?”
When we need permission from a search engine to confirm what we already know intuitively, there’s a problem.
If you want to learn rituals, ceremonies, and practices to care for your womb and deepen into your intuitive wisdom…
I invite you to join my 4-Day Womb Work Initiation: Womb & Voice Edition. We start on October 10th.
Expect practical techniques to release tension in the womb and the voice-utilizing somatic work, energetic practices, and ceremony to build awareness of your body…
It will be four days of rituals, ceremonies and ancient practices.
Did I mention it’s only $19?
Whenever I sit in Circle with a new group of womben, I ask them the same question I’ve been asking for almost a decade “what did you learn about your menstrual cycle growing up?”.
Thousands of answers later, and the lack of education and guidance most of us received as young children is still shocking.
If you were lucky to learn something about your menstrual cycle growing up, you’re the outlier, congratulations!
Growing up, I learned that my menstrual blood was dirty, unholy, and shameful.
I remember the quick comments my mom would make about the importance of wrapping up my pads and tampons tightly so no one could smell them.
This kind of conditioning couples shame with the arrival of our menstrual cycles.
So when the period cramps, the fatigue, or the heavy blood flow comes, we’re not only dealing with the physical impact of our menstrual cycles, we’re dealing with the shame that arrives with it, too.
One of the most powerful ways to flip the script on this shame and consciously uncouple the negative programming around our menstrual cycles is by creating a ritual with your period blood.
Here are three of my favorite ways to create ritual with my menstrual blood:
1. Create art with your menstrual blood.
Your menstrual blood holds the codes of your becoming, meaning that energetically it holds the residue of all that you’ve transformed, healed, and unearthed within yourself from the past month. How beautiful is that?
By creating art with our menstrual blood we are honoring it as a thing of beauty.
Claiming it as something to be proud of. Something to celebrate, something to honor.
If rewriting your relationship with your period sounds good to you… and actually looking FORWARD to when you bleed (instead of counting down the days on your calendar until you experience the dreaded curse)…
Then you’ll love what we’ll do inside our Womb Health Reclamation Training.
2. Collect your blood and give it back to the Earth
Returning our blood back to the Earth creates a reciprocal relationship with Her. Many of us only consider what we can take from the Earth, but as our healing and the Earth’s healing are linked, it is in our best interest to give back as much as we take.
Through this reciprocity, balance is created.
To give your blood back to the Earth in a period ritual, follow these steps:
- Rinse your menstrual pad, sponge, or tampon in a bowl of warm water until the blood colors the water red. If you use a menstrual cup, pour the blood in your cup into warm water.
- Take the bowl outside and pour your blood into the earth while saying internally or out loud “thank you” (in your Mother tongue).
- Repeat every day of your cycle or as many times as you’re able.
For those who live in the city or a place where you’re unable to do access a space of Earth to do this, consider the option below:
3. Water your garden or indoor plants with your menstrual blood
Menstrual blood is rich in stem cells and minerals, making it incredible food for plants when mixed with water.
My favorite garden I’ve ever grown was my garden in Costa Rica full of plants used for womb healing that I watered monthly with my menstrual blood.
This period ritual is powerful, whether you have a big patch of land or not.
This option is great for those who live in the city because you can water your house plants with your period blood too.
To practice, use the instructions listed above in #1 but instead of pouring on the Earth, pour on your plants and/or house plants.
This is just a snippet of the magic that’s going to happen inside our 4-Day Womb Work Initiation: Womb & Voice Edition, where womben from all over the world will meet online for education, ceremonies and rituals.
There’s a modern epidemic of women disconnected from not only the power of the earth, but their own personal power of the voice & womb.
